Hi friends,
 In Indian marriage ceremony there is one very important ritual part known as "Saptpadi" (sapt = seven and padi = steps). In this ritual, tying the knots with each other bride and groom revolve round the sacred fire seven times and and take seven vows of marriage. For details please see,

At the time of marriage of my son in 2010, I decided to give seven different types of necklaces in seven different colours (Fig 2) at the time of Saptpadi.

Out of these seven types of necklaces, one was tatted necklace and earring which I made for my daughter in law (Fig 1). That was the first time I search for the tatted jewelry. Today I could not find the link of that tatted jewelry set, only I found the earrings here,

In 2015 when I went to USA, I purchased these beads (Fig 3) but I didn't have tatting thread with me. So after returning, I tried to make one earrings using those beads, matching thread was already with me. I knew that after so much gap, its finishing didn't come up to the mark. Any way the earrings were ready and they are in Fig 4.

Tatted Earrings:

Hi friends,
Earrings is a  jewellery for ear. In India, ears of all girls and boys, particularly Hindus are pierced and that is one of the religious rite.

Earrings are very special jewellery type which girls like to wear most. In my twenties that is in 1974-75 simple rings were our usual earrings (fig 2).  Jhumar or Big rings with pearls attached to the bottom cord of that ring, used to be the most fashionable and functional earring as in fig 3.

Once I insisted for such big rings to my mother and she made them for me but my grand mother didn't like such big earrings and I have fearful regard for her. So I never wore those earrings. But I still loved them.


But we all sisters became habituate with only tops as earring.

But still I like big earrings though I never wore such. So I also like to tat such big earrings and now a days it's also a latest fashion to wear big earring.

So I made these earrings in the last week. Earrings in fig 1, are with little bit variation of the earring in,

Thread used is Anchor Number 20 and beads are shown in fig 5.

For stringing bead crochet needle 0.5 mm is used.

Fig 7 shows how the bead is inserted in the thread with the help of crochet hook.

One More Shuttle Lace for Hanky:

Hi friends,
Last weekend I tatted this handkerchief lace (Fig 1) for the daughter of my sister. I made this lace previously also, shown in fig 2

First I made a pattern, it is very simple (Fig 3) then I decided to make a lace for hanky.
This is very simple just suitable for beginners.

Material: Coat's thread 20 number, one shuttle, crochet hook for passing thread through the picot scissor.
Tie ball and tread in shuttle together.
*Ring of 8 p, 8 ds close. Reverse,
Chain of 1 ds, 9 p. Join with the first picot of the previous ring*
Repeat from * to * till it covers all the four sides of handkerchief.
Don't cut the thread.
Hem all the four edges of the hanky by same colour.
Now go on stitching this lace to the handkerchief. Be cautious at corner.
If necessary tat further and here the beautiful hanky is ready!!

Hi friends,
I decide to make a jewellery set in this week. I want the set some what functional, means with big earring, for today's young girls who like to wear it when they get ready for function.

This beautiful earrings I saw on pinterest and decided to make them.

That bright colour also looks beautiful if it matches the dress.

As I have decided to make a jewellery set, so I have to tat necklace also. I made the same pattern of earring for locket / pendent and make chain to that.

In between the Josephine cord there are split rings, two near the pendent and three other on both sides.
Actually big beads in earrings and in necklace locket are same but don't know why they look different here! (In fig 1 and 2) 😏

Small Earrings:

Hi friends,

This week end when I was cleaning my cupboard (which has to be done after every month), I saw small cream colour beads and they were staring at me and telling that you only bought us but never used us. I understood their feelings and tried to find suitable thread. Surprisingly I found (?) thread of same shade (I must have bought them at the same time as that of beads). It was the experience of  just recollecting, how to add bead and all because I am tatting jewellery after so many days. So to restart, I made a small earrings.

I have tatted these small earrings with Anchor thread 4054 of 20 number.

Again sorry for the difference of colour, the shade of the thread is not caught properly in the camera. I think that reflection in the glass looks more perfect in colour 😎

 I always like making tatted jewellery, I remember that I made tatted jewellery first time for my daughter in law in 2010. It is praised by every one in the marriage ceremony and she still wears it. Tatted jewellery is of course eco - friendly and more child proof. She still wears the earrings.

The necklace I made just simple combination of three flowers and the chain part is nothing but split rings.

Now I have decided to make more tatted jewellery of this cream colour thread and beads.

Cute Collar for a Dress:

Hi friends,
This collar I had tatted for olive green colored dress of my youngest sister; long back in 1979-80 when she entered collage. In those days the art of tatting is very new in our city.  After some years when that dress tore, I removed that lace (collar) and sewed it
to another dress and I have photo of that only.

I don't remember name of the book from which the pattern was seen. It was having very few pages and all black and white photos. If any one among our tatting world knows the name of that book, please let me know, I shall be very much thankful to him / her.

After so many days of making this collar, I wished to tat one more collar or lace. When I searched internet for that I first time saw beaded tatting. It was beautiful and moreover I never did it. So I decided to tat beaded lace and this is my first beaded tatting.

Before sewing I keep this lace around the neck of my blouse in two different ways. Finally I sewed the lace as per fig 4 as I liked it more.

Handkerchief with Symbol of Love: (Valentine Day special)

Hi friends,

Coming week brings Valentine day which is popular all over the world. Every one is busy for purchasing gifts for his / her beloved. Heart and flowers are mainly used for the gifts on this day. In last 5-6 years it is also celebrated  in India but many groups of people oppose it every year. I think instead of romantic love if we consider it in a broader sense then there should be no problem. 

There is very famous poem in Marathi (my mother-tong) by our great literary Kusumagraj, (V V Shirwadkar),

प्रेम कुणावर करावं ?
कुणावरही करावं....

Means,
Whom we should love?
Love any one.......

and then poet describes different persons, characters some beautiful even some not and still suggest to love all that.

In the last two lines while explaining that why we should love, he says.... 

प्रेम कुणावरही करावं
कारण प्रेम आहे
माणसाच्या संस्कॄतीचा सारांश 
त्याच्या इतिहासाचा निष्कर्ष आणि 
भविष्यकालातील त्याच्या अभ्युदयाची आशा
एकमेव ….. !

Love any one because, 
love is the summary of culture, 
conclusion of history and 
the only hope of arising future of mankind.

The poem gives the most broader and deep meaning of love. In short we should love every creation of God.

On this platform we all are lovers of art and creativity. 
We want to create new things and Valentine Day is one of the occasion for us.
So I have created this pink handkerchief with tatted heart in 2010 for my daughter in law to express our love for her.
                                                     

Material: One handkerchief with picot done on all borders, Anchor thread number 20 Maroon color, sewing needle and matching thread if available or you can sew with the same tatting thread also, Shuttle and scissor.
Last but not least lots of love for whom you are making this 💓💓



Instructions:
Fill the maroon tatting thread in a shuttle.
Start with R of 4-4-4-4, R of 4 join with the picot of previous R, 2-2-2-2-4 close.
Work R of 4, join with the last picot of previous R, 4-4-4 close.
Chain of 6-6.
R of 4 join with the last picot of the third ring, 4-4-4 close.
Note that all rings are 4-4-4-4 except two middle rings.
Lower five chains are 4-4, then two chains are 5-5 and last two 6-6.
When you arrive to the lower center, work one more ring with 3-3-3-3-3-3 close.
Similarly work other part.

Meaning of Knitting, Crochet and Tatting Abbreviations in Marathi:

All over the world there are number of languages and most of the literature in knitting, crochet, tatting is in English, that's why I have started my blog in English. But many of my friends (particularly face book friends) asked me to change the language of the blog to Marathi which is the language of the state where I live, because it will be easier for them to understand and make the item.  I also wish that language should not become a barrier to learn some new thing.
