Crochet Aakash Kandil / Aakash Diya 4 (Eng Sub) | Lantern | Jhumar | Lamp Shade | Diwali Special

Hello friends,

This is one more beautiful Aakash Kandil, Aakash Diya, Lamp Shade or Light Shade. It's very simple to make and beautiful to look.

This design is already used for ladies shawl. See the following post,

https://alkaandart.blogspot.com/search?q=Caron+one+pound+yarn

PATTERN:

I use: Yarn Vardhamaan Cuddles a thin yarn, hook 3.5 mm, metal rings two with diameter 9.5”, beads 125 and bells 25.

R1: Make hdc around the ring to wrap the whole ring, cl. Make sure that the stitches are in multiple of 20. You can adjust by adding or by removing some stitches. Here I have to make 160 hdcs.

R2: dc1 in each st, cl.

First dc is always ch3.

Place marker at each 20th st around (8 times).

R3: [(dc2, ch2, dc2) shell in one st, ch4, skip 7 sts, dc3 in next, ch3, skip 2 sts, dc3 in next, ch4, skip 7 sts] 8 times, cl. (Shell will be at each marker’s stitch.

R4: Sl st till ch2-sp of marker, [shell on shell, ch2, on three dc-sts of previous round make (dc2 on first dc-st, dc1 on second, dc2 on third dc-st), ch2, dc1 on middle ch (out of ch3 in previous round), ch2, again (dc2 on first dc-st, dc1 on second, dc2 on third dc-st), ch2] 8 times, cl.

R5: sl st till ch2-sp, [shell on shell, ch2, 2dctog, dc1, 2dctog, ch3, dc3 on dc-st (bold), ch3, 3dctog, dc1, 2dctog, ch2] 8 times, cl.

R6: sl st till ch2-sp, [shell on shell, ch1, 3dctog, dc1 on first dc-st, ch3, dc1 on third dc-st, 3dctog, ch1] 8 times, cl.

R7: sl st till ch2-sp, [shell on shell, ch4, dc3 on first dc-st, ch3, dc3 on second dc-st, ch1] 8 times, cl.

Repeat rounds R4 to R7 as much as the required length reached. For 9-10 inches I get the pattern repeated 4 times.

Last but one round: sl st till ch2-sp, [dc2 in ch2-sp, dc1 on two dc-sts of shell, dc2 in ch1-sp, dc3 in first ch3-sp, dc4 in second ch3-sp, dc3 in third ch3-sp, dc2 on ch1-sp, dc1 on two dcs of shell]  8 times, cl.

We get again 20 sts from each pattern thus 160 total sts.

Last round: hdc 1 in each st including the second metal ring. Close and BO.

Take double thread and make chs to get 25” long chord. Attach it to the Aakash kandil as shown. Make one more and attach it opposite points so as to hold it properly.

Make 25 Latkan (Tasseltype) as follows.

Tie the yarn with bell, (thread 1 bead, ch 9) 5 imes, bind off with 4-5 inches yarn end.

Sew them equally to the lower ring as shown in the following picture. You can make different latkans also.

Crochet Aakash Kandil / Aakash Diya 3 (Eng Sub) | Lantern | Jhumar | Lamp Shade | Diwali Special

Hello friends,
This is my new creation for this DIWALI, "AAKASH KANDIL", Aakash Diya or Lamp Shade. I hope that you will also enjoy making this Aakash Diya. I have posted it sufficiently early so that you can make more aakash diyas, present them to your beloved or sale as much as you can.

Metal used: rings: 4.5” diameter and 9.5” diameter and one big wooden bead.

Vardhaman Millenium Yarn and hook 3.5 mm.

PATTERN:

R1: with dark yarn sc including ring to cover the ring.

I need 86 scs to cover the ring but as I need multiple of 8 sts, so we add two scs in a ring. (88 sts)

R2: (dc1 in 10 sts, dc2 in next) 8 times, cl (96 sts).

R3: (dc1 in 11 sts, dc2 next) 8 times, cl (104 sts) BO.

Join yellow yarn at any st.

R4: ch1, sc1 in same st, [ch3, skip 3 sts, (dc1, ch3, dc1) in next st (V made), ch3, skip 3 sts, sc1 next] 13 times, cl.

R20: [2dctog, dc1 in 9 sts, ch1] 13 times, cl

R21: [dc1 in 10 sts, ch1] 13 times, cl

Repeat in this way till there are [dc4, ch1]

After round 21, I have changed the colour after every 2 rounds.

Now we make border at the bigger ring’s front loops which are unworked.

Join green yarn in any front loop of R17.

In a magic loop make (ch3, dc1, ch3, sl st in mag loop) 5 times, cl.

Make 13 flowers. Sew them at the joint of two leaves.

Now I have made border with beads the top. For that join green yarn at any sc-st arount small ring attached at the top.

Then continue the lower part from (dc4, ch1)….

Sew by tapestry needle.

Also sew a big tassel (7") at the end.
