Crochet Gudhi Part 4: Assembling

Hello friends,

Hope you are doing well and making plans for Gudhi Padawa decoration or for Chaitra Haldi Kumkum decoration. When I was kid my mother used to make nice decoration for Chaitra Gauri and I used to see and help her. But at that time no camara so I missed all those memories to capture in camera. In decorating Chaitra Gauri mainly the seasonal fruits are used means Watermelon, Muskmelon, Unripe mango etc. Also there are special dishes made with these fruits like, Panh (cold drink of unripe mango) and Kairi Daal. Some ladies also sow seed which will plant quickly and makes greenary with that. This is also used for decoration.

To get an idea about the decorations ladies used to do for Chaitra Gauri, I shared some photos from Google.

Moreover as I explained in my post Crochet Gudhi part 1 that Gudhi is hosted mainly on the first day of this month. It's a symbol of Victory and Happiness. So we made this Crochet Gudhi as the best Home decoration for this month.

We have already made all accessories necessary for that means Gathiya, Neem leaves, Mango leaves, Kalash, Garland and Saree for Gudhi. Only I made embroidary (5) with dark yellow colour as shown in next picture.

Then I have purchased one sitting stand (Paat) and one of our family friend, Namdev helps me to fix wooden rod at the cetre of that.

Then I found golden ribbon in my stock and I wrapped it around the rod with fabric fevicol at the starting and at the end.
Then with the green cord already attached with the saree, I tied all accessories means Mango leaves, Neem leaves, Gathiya and Garland at the top end of wooden rod. Then placed (capped) the Kalash up side down. Finally plave a small flower at the top of the Kalash.
So decorate your home with the beautiful Gudhi here.

It stimulates immune system and useful for rapid healing of skin diseases. It is tradition to eat small Neem leaves along with jegerry on the Gudi Padawa.

So to know the importance of Neem tree to new generation, it is the tradition to tie Neem branchlets to the Gudhi and worship it. Hence I made these Neem Branchlets for our Crochet Gudhi. Neem leaves are elongated and having serrated edges so I tried to get the same look.

This row is same for all size of leaves.

Make one more leaf on other side at the same position. Join at the initial stem by sl st.

Then make two leaves of ch9 each as followes.

[Ch 9, skip first st, 1 sl st, 2sc, 1 hdc, 1dc, 1hdc, 2sc, (sl st in opposite side st), ch1, sl st 1 in each st] twice.

Ch 5

Crochet Gudhi Part 1: Gathiya / Gathi for Gudhi-Padawa

Hello friends,

Chaitra, the first month of Lunar calender and the first day of this month is celebrated as Gudhi-Padawa. In Maharashtra the special type of flag is arranged at every house, called GUDHI. A bright colourful silk cloth is tied to a Bamboo along with Mango leaves, Neem leaves, Sweet Garland called Gathi, flower garland etc.Tthen this is capped by some silver or copper pot on which haldi kumkum etc are placed and worshipped it as in next photo.

Gudhi is the main attraction of this day. It's a symbol of Victory and Happiness. So we made this Crochet Gudhi as the best Home decoration for this month.

This year many of my subscribers requested me to make Crochet Gudhi. First I thought that there is not sufficient time to make all these accessories of Gudhi. But then I struck that three items are already made.
1. Flower Garland: I made 5-6 garlands at the time of Ganesh Utsav, some of them....
2. Kalash: That is the most time consuming artical to make but I have already made it in Mangal Kalash.
3. Mango leaves: That is also in part 3 of Mangal Kalash,
4. Flower for Puja:
You can also read them on my blog posts on,
For garlands: 2nd Aug 2020, 10th Aug 2020 or 21st Sep 2021.
For Kalash: 30 Apr 2020 and
Mango leaves: 7th May 2020.
Then I thought that I can do it within time and started from Gathi.
Gathi / Gathiya: is a special sweet for Gudi padawa. It is the garland made by suger blobs. In these days market is full of such Gathiya for sell. Now a days coloured Gathyas are also available.

So I made crochet Gathi with 4 ply yarn and 3.5 mm hook. I am also pleased as all my friends liked it very much.
Pattern:

Width of each motif (padak) 1.5”

R1: In a magic loop make dc 16, cl (First dc means ch3).

Make two such pieces.

Place wrong side on wrong side and work second round.

R2: (ch1, sl st 1 in next combined st) repeat around, BO.

Make such 5 0r 7 padak.

With thread in tapestry needle sew them as shown in the video.

If you want to make Garland then make 12 motives, Sew 11 as above and last motif as locket.

Many of my friends made these beautiful Gathiyas with white or coloured yarn.
