Crochet Bicycle: On Occasion of International Bicycle Day 3rd June, Crochet Toys

 

Hello friends,

Today is international Bicycle day and hence I made this beautiful Bicycle. Make it and gift it to your grand kids and give them message of "SAVE PETROL". Our Honourable Prime Minister had given this valuable message. Hence this is just one try to remind all my friends same message. Bicycle is the first vehicle of any kid and so they love bicycle too much.

For this crochet bicycle I used 2 old bangles 2.2" diameter (Best out of Waste!)

Yarn: Ganga Olivia and some left over yarns, metal wires and glue B7000.

Size of cycle: Length 7", Height 5"

PATTERN: 

TIRE & SPOKES: First wrap the bangle by single crochet as we usually used to wrap (watch video). I used 3.5 mm hook for that but later I realised that I should wrap it with 1.75 mm hook But it's OK. I need 44-45 scs for complete wrapping then close by sl st. 

Then turn all stitches inside. 

Make chs 8 or 9 as needed upto opposite side st (just like diameter of circle). Join by sl st. {Cut the yarn and join after 7 sts, again chs8, join at opposite st} 2 times. Spokes are ready.

Now by tapestry needle again wrap the bangle passing through each of the 45 sts. Here we can again make scs but it will make edge of sc- stitches which we don't want, we want smooth round surface of tire and hence we wrap like this. Make 2 pieces.

RODS: R1: In magic loop make ch1, sc6 don't closework in spiral.

R2 to R13: sc1 in each st (6). 

For stiffness insert thin metal wire in it. Make 4 of this size.

Then make 4 bigger for seat base and handle and basket base by working same as above only upto 16 rounds. (You may use 2 big rods only) In video by mistake I said one big rod only but later I made more.

CHAIN GUARD: In video I have shown it with different color but later I made it with orange yarn.

R1: In magic loop make ch1, sc6 don't closework in spiral.

R2: (sc2) in each st (12)

R3: [sc1, (sc2) next] 6 times, cl. (18) (call this as Base)

Make chs 12, Row1: sc1 in each ch from second ch. (11), join by sl st with next base st.

Row 2: sl st in each st, join by sl st in next base st.

Row3: ch1, sc1 in back loop of each st, join by sl st with next base st.

Make 2 pieces.

COVER FOR CENTRE OF WHEEL: Make 4.

R1: in magic loop ch1, sc6, work in spiral.

R2: (sc2) in each st

R3: ch1, hdc1 in each st, cl.

SEAT: Make chs 10. R1: from 2nd ch make sc1 in 8 sts, in last st make (hdc4), sc1 in each of the 8 sts from other side (20 sts). Then without making any chain go to R2 

R2: sc8, (dc2) in each of the 4 hdc-stitches, sc8 from other side. (24 sts)

R3: sc1 in back loop of each st (24)

R4: sc2, 2sctog, sc4, 2sctog, sc6, 2sctog, sc4, 2sctog (20 sts)

R5: 2sctog, sc8, 2sctog, sc8, close with yarn end. (18 sts)

Sew partially by tapestry needle then stuff fiber lightly (don't sew completely that will be done once the rod is inserted.

STAND: Take 4" metal wire (not much thick), fold it for half cm, wrap orange yarn to above part and white yarn to folded half cm part. Make 2.

Then glue the parts which are ready by B7000.

CHAIN: With black yarn make chs sufficient to round as shown, fix it by glue.

BASKET: chs 9, R1: from 2nd ch sc1 in each

R2 to R6: ch1 turn, sc1 in each. (8)

Round 1: [sc1 in each sc-row (makes 6 scs), sc8] 2 times, cl (28)

R2: ch1, sc1 in each st, cl (28) Repeat this round till the height is 1".

Border: Either make border of Crab st or by Twisted single crochet as shown in video. For that {make the loop on hook little bigger, insert hook in next st, YO get one little long st, Twist both sts, YO, pass through both of them} rep till end, cl. (28)

HANDLE: Take 12" thin wire fold it. Insert in the basket on back side from top to bottom then take it out from other end. wrap orange yarn to both parts again fold it for handle and wrap it by white yarn.

PEDALS: With white make chs 4.

R1: From 2nd ch make sc1 in each ch. (3)

R2, R3: ch1 turn, sc1 in each st (3), BO.

Take thin wire 2", fold it also fold it for the pedal as shown. Again wrap orange yarn to upper part and white to lower part. Glue the pedal made on the white part. Make 2. 

ASSEMBLING: Glue the rods (big rods for seat and handle), chain coverto the wheels. Then glue pedals at the centre of chain cover. Also glue white covers at the centre of both wheel from both sides. Lastly fix seat and basket at their proper places. Make some small flowers and put them in the basket.

Your beautiful Bicycle is ready.
