About Me..

Hi friends,

I am blogger of “Alka and Art”, Dr Mrs Alka Suresh Gudadhe (Joshi) from a small town Amravati from India. I am Ph. D. in Mathematics and by profession I am Professor and Head of the department (Mathematics) of Govt. Vidarbha Institute of Science and Humanities. I loved my job of teaching. Also I love all forms of Arts like music, drawing, painting, knitting, crocheting, tatting, rangoli even origami, quilling etc. Though I am a science student, my thrust of all forms of arts makes my life more enjoyable.

Recently I am retired and then my daughter Prajakta and daughter in law Priya (both in USA) insist me to start a blog. The amazing global internet world also attracts me and I decide to enhance my wings and try to reach you all, through this blog.

This blog will be mainly on Knitting, Crochet and Tatting but as the name suggests we shall also discuss about some other forms of arts which I try and love.

I must mention here that apart from our weak economic condition in my childhood, I can learn these different forms of arts only because of my mommy, to whom we call aai in marathi (my mother tongue). Actually she is neither knitter or crocheter but she had done bead work, embroidery and mainly sewing. She used to force me to learn, any form of art what ever new she saw.  Always she has guarantee that I can do it (which I may not have at that time).

That's all about me. Also I love hearing from my readers, if you have any questions or suggestions about the post or its contents please reach out me by your comments. Your comments are always welcome.
Thanks for visiting the site.

  1. Dear Alka,

It is indeed heart warming to see that after retiring from an illustrious and exemplary academic profession / career, you are embarking on blogging in the realms of arts, encompassing knitting, crochet and tatting.

You have inherited exceptional artistic talents from your your Dad & Mom. I enjoyed seeing the photograph of Kaku, she certainly has nurtured, encouraged and helped you to excel in many dimensions and expressions of art.

Art is eternal, enduring and inspiring. It brings enormous satisfaction to the artist and it makes the would more beautiful. Keep it up.

With many best wishes and Sa. Namaskar to Kaku,

    Dada

  8. Hello, this is Dr Madhuri Choudhary, a doctorate in microbiology, placed in Pune. I am also a retired person but working as empanelled auditor on a German firm. Since childhood, in addition to science and technology I was also interested in arts and crafts. I just happened to see a lantern made by a friend, liked the design, so thought of making use of its central design. Since this friend herself was new for crochet, she asked me to surf Granny squares and that is how I came across your art-work in crochet.
I am sure, as a person, you must be much....much more than what NET depicts. You have really done wonderful art pieces in crochet. I thoroughly enjoyed them.
My difficulty is since I have never learnt art and craft formally, I can't follow any short form or any written material. But sooner or later, I plan to learn them and then I will be really able to learn from your creations.
If you happen to come to Pune, do give me a call. It would be a great pleasure for me. I am available on 9762016733/ 9822584733. If we happen to pass by, I will also try to contact you.
    With best regards.
