Crochet Aakash Kandil Diwali Special, Lamp Shade

 

Hello friends,

Diwali is on the way so we are preparing for Diwali decoration. I made this crochet Aakash Kandil (Aakash Diya).Every year I had made different designs in Aakash Diya.

Other than Aakash Kandil also there are number of Diwali special showpieces, Dolies etc. 

This year Lotus design is very viral. Everything subscribers want in Lotus design hence I made this Aakash Diya also using lotus design. Lotus made is same as that made in Toran design. My post on 9th of this month. Link is here,

This Aakash Diya has height 15" without cord and cord them selves are 6"-7" each. I used only one ring of 9.5" diameter. Yarn used is Red Heart but you can use Ganga Desire like thick yarn. If you want to use thin yarn then use another ring for down side so that it will remain stiff. 

PATTERN: LOTUS: Make 5 Lotus Flowers as that pattern. With Yellow make chs 10.

R1: from second ch, sc1, hdc1, dc1, (dc2) in next 2 sts, dc1, hdc1, sc1, in last ch make (sc1, ch1, sc1), place marker at ch1-sp, then from other side also make sc1, hdc1, dc1, (dc2) in 2 sts, dc1, hdc1, sc1, lastly sl st in first st on opposite side.

R2: Join other color at first st. ch1, sc1 in each st till marker (you have to make 11 scs), at marker make (sc1, ch1-picot, sc1) then on other side also make sc1 in each st (11), BO.

We need 7 such petals for one Lotus. So make 35 petals and glue them as shown.

To fix it more, sew a big bead at centre so that all petals are attached.

Now let's start from wrapping ring itself. 

R1: with red yarn cover the whole ring by single crochets, cl.

R2: (dc1 in 2 sts, ch2, skip 2 sts) rep till end, cl. (We have 33 groups of 2dcs)

R3: Sl St till ch2-sp, (dc2 in ch2-sp, ch2) rep till end, cl.

Repeat R3 till the height is 5"-6".

Next R: ch1, (sc1 on 2 dc-sts, sc2 in ch2-sp) rep till end, cl (132 sts). BO.

Now we have 5 lotus and 132 sts ( we round up to 130). That is each lotus have 26 sts. Hence place marker after each 25 sts. 

Now join green yarn at marker's place.

BORDER R1: ch1, sc1in 3 sts, [skip 3 sts, (dc7) in next, skip 3 sts, sc1 in 6 sts] rep till end, lastly sc3, cl.

R2: [(dc2) in each dc out of 7 dc-sts, sl st after 3sc-sts] rep till end, cl.

In all we have 10 green semi circles. Alternatively we fix lotus. Then for Latkan make 5 Tassels with base color yarn and some beads as per availability. Also we make five other latkan with small crochet flowers.

LATKAN: With green yarn make chs 7 for stem + chs 7 for leaf

R1: LEAF: from second ch, sc1, hdc1, dc2, hdc1, sc1, sl st at base then ch7+ ch3, in 4th ch make dc1 (this is base for flower), again chs 7 +7 make leaf, [again ch7 +3, dc1 in 4th ch, ch7+7, lastly leaf, sl st in each of the 7 sts of stem, ch4, join by sl st at flower-base, sl st 7, make ch7 and leaf from other side] 2 times, lastly sl st in ch7 made initially.

FLOWER: R1: in magic loop, (ch3, dc1, ch3, sl st in magic loop)  5 times, cl. Sew bead at centre. 

Then glue or sew one white and one corel color flower at two flower-base made.

BELT: Make chs 45, Sl st in back belt of each st. It comes out to be 10". Make such 4 cords.

Then we also make green border for the top of the ring. Make (chs 13 + ch7 and leaf on it) 10 times.  Also make 10 small flowers for this border.

Glue all parts 5 lotus, 5 latkan each in between two lotus, 5 tassels one under each lotus and then glue top lace by Glue Gun and lastly sew 4 cords to hold the Aakash Diya.

The beautiful Aakash Kandil (as shown in first picture) is ready.
