Crochet Bolero Type Cardigan, Baby Sweater for 6 to 9 Months Baby

Hello friends, Here I am posting dresses for babies and kids. This one is Bolero type sweater. It's very simple to make and best gift for baby.

It's width 10", height 10" and weight 103 gm. For 1 year baby you may take width 12" and start with chains accordingly.

I used Vardhaman Millenium yarn and 3,5 mm hook.

PATTERN: Back Side: Make chains with length 10". I have to make 44 chs for that much length. I add 2 more.

R1: From 4th ch make dc1 in each st (44)

R2: ch3 turn, dc1 in each st (44). (You can also make first dc as ch3 or sc1, ch2 or you can also make sc1 and again sc on that sc made (shown in the video)

R3: and all rows ahead same as R2. Repeat till the height is 10". Also note that number of rows must be even, if necessary  you may have height little more than 10". I have to make 22 rows.

SEMICIRCLE: Row 1: In magic loop make dc 6

R2: dc2 in each st,  (12)

R3: [dc1, (dc2) in next] 6 times (18)

R4: [dc1 in 2 sts, (dc2) next] 6 times, (24)

R5: [dc1 in 3 sts, (dc2) next] 6 times, (30)

R6: [dc1 in 4 sts, (dc2) next] 6 times, (36)

R7: [dc1 in 5 sts, (dc2) next] 6 times, (42)

Very important thing to be noted is that number of rows of this semicircle must be half the number of total rows in back side. So make more rows...

R8: [dc1 in 6 sts, (dc2) next] 6 times, (48)

R9: [dc1 in 7 sts, (dc2) next] 6 times, (54)

R10: [dc1 in 8 sts, (dc2) next] 6 times, (60)

R11: [dc1 in 9 sts, (dc2) next] 6 times, (66)

Similarly make one more semicircle.

Now skip 3.5" for armhole and sew these 2 semicircles to the back side, placing RS on RS (sew on WS). Sew by slip stitches as shown in the following video, taking 2 sts in each dc-row.

Then also sew 11-12 stitches for shoulders on both sides.

For border, join yarn at middle of back side.
R1: ch2 (not considered as first dc), (fpdc1, bpdc1) rep till semi circle part comes...

then along curved part make, [(fpdc1, bpdc1) for 10 sts, dc1 in next st] rep till the end of curved part.

Again along neck side (fpdc1, bpdc1), then again on curved portion  [(fpdc1, bpdc1) for 10 sts, dc1 in next st] rep till the end of curved part.

R2: Join contrast color at first st, ch1, hdc1 in each st along back side part, along semicircle part [hdc 1 in 11 sts, (hdc2) in next] rep till the end of semicircle. Along neck side hdc 1 in each st, Again on curved portion  [hdc 1 in 11 sts, (hdc2) in next] rep till the end of semicircle, cl. BO.

SLEEVES: Join new yarn at underarm st.

R1: Make dc 2 in each row of double crochet. (We have 40 sts).

R2: ch3, 2dctog next, dc1 in each st till last 2  sts, lastly 2dctog, cl (38)

R3: dc1 in each st, cl (38)

R4: ch3, dc1 in 11 sts, (2dctog), dc1 in 11 sts, (2dctog), dc1 in 11 sts, cl (36)

Thus you may decrease always at underarm or as in R4.

Make length of sleeve 5" then there will be 1" border.

Border: (fpdc1, bpdc1) rep till end, cl.

Lastly by contrast color make hdc1 in each st, cl

Similarly complete other sleeve, our Bolero cardigan is ready.

After this if you want youcan sew some applique e.g. butterfly as I did or some flower.

The following video with Eng subtitles may help you.

ETC: Enjoy the Creativity.
