Hello friends,
This is the new Aakash Kandil I made. This is very simple and can be made quickly. Most amazing thing is. it can be used whole year as a Zumar in your hall.
I need one metal ring, some beads, 4 ply yarn and 3.5 mm hook. I also use small pink pompoms available on Amazon. Diameter of the ring is 9" but I feel that it may be 7" to 8".
Pattern: Cover the ring by sc with white yarn. For 9" diameter with Vardhamaan Millenium yarn I need 140 scs to cover the ring. In general for ring of any diameter, the mathematics behind it is (diameter in inches x 15) 4-5 sts more. This should be the number of scs required to cover the ring means if your ring is of 8" diameter then approximately you have to make 8x15=120 +5, means nearly 125 scs. and so on.
R1: sc1 around the ring to cover it. (140)
R2: dc1 in each st, cl (140)
R3: same as R1. BO.
Now make puff flowers by pink yarn as followes.
R1: In a magic loop make sc12, cl, BO.
R2: with pink yarn make (ch3, 3 times dc-type long sts in same st, 3times dc-type long stsin next st, ch3, sl st in second st) rep 6 times, cl, BO. Place bead in between the flower.
Make such 18-20 flowers and see whether they are sufficient to cover the white strip of dcs on the ring.
I have 140 white sts aeound the ring, so I decided to make 20 Latkan and sew after every 6 sts.
Now make 20 tassel with blue yarn, nearly 4" long. Then thread big bead then small pompom, then again big bead.
Now join blue yarn at one of the white stitch. ch3, (small bead, make 3dc-puff) 2 times, tie one latkan here. (Each time after threading a bead make ch2 and then make 3dc-puff on second chain)
Skip 6 sts on right side of this, join blue yarn in 7th st, ch3, (small bead, make 3dc-puff) 3 times, tie one latkan here.
Similarly skip 6 sts on left side of first latkan, join blue yarn in 7th st, ch3, (small bead, make 3dc-puff) 3 times, tie one latkan here.
Now skip 6 sts on right side of second latkan, join blue yarn in 7th st, ch3, (small bead, make 3dc-puff) 4 times, tie one latkan here.
Similarly skip 6 sts on left side of second latkan, join blue yarn in 7th st, ch3, (small bead, make 3dc-puff) 4 times, tie one latkan here.
Thus go on increasing one puff on both sides till there are 12 puffs or again opposite middle point arrives.
The beautiful Lamp shade or Aakash Diya is ready. You can use this the whole year as a Zumar in your home.
The following video with English subtitles may help you.
