OM Wall Hanging for our Meditation Room or Prayer Room by Tapestry Crochet

 

Hello friends,

My new creation is again a simple gift which you can give to any one, so that he can keep this frame in his Prayer room or Meditation room. It's dimension is 8"x8" and weight is just 27 gm.

This syllable OM is supposed to be very sacred sound in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddism. It is considered to be the essence of whole Universe. It represents union of Body Mind and Spirit. It is offen chanted in Meditation and in Yoga.

Thus being so important you can make it with your own hand and present it to your friends. You can hang it in your Prayer room or Meditation room. So you can give this as a gift for House warming event.

I know that many of my friends subscribers don't like to make any thing in single crochet. So I tried OM by double crochet but it is not that successful. These are my two experiments.

I didn't like their shapes. Then I search online also but I didn't like them. 

So lastly I decided to make Om by tapestry crochet with single crochet. I had already made one beautiful wall frame using this technique. You can see my post on 9th May 2020.

Then I search OM in cross stitch on pinterest and I got a beautiful one which looks healthy and well twisty letter OM. I took it's print out. 

Then I decided to start with 34+1 chs. So we want to make 34 x 34 square. In this print out there are only 32 sts. So we have one extra at the starting and one extra at the end of every row. I use light yellow and maroon / red color yarns. I will mention them by Y and R for these colors only. Then row by row count the stitches in yellow and red and work accordingly. See the marks I made on my rough page.

Note: 1. Always carry forward other color if it is needed further.

2. When you change the color keep the other yarn always on wrong side.

Row1: sc1 in each st starting from second.

Row2: Y9, R6, Y19

Row3: Y17, R10, Y7

Row4: Y6, R12, Y5, R5, Y6

Row5: Y5, R7, Y3, R14, Y5

Row6: Y4, R4, Y5, R6, Y2, R9, Y4

So you go on marking like this and complete OM.

Lastly I made sc border by Zari cord. Note that at corner make 3 scs and on the top middle point make ch 10 loop for hanging purpose.

Introduction to Filet Crochet: Making Letter OM and Heart

Hello friends, Hope that you are all well. Since last two days I was making this Door decor based on Filet crochet technique. Some important points I have noted about this technique - Filet Crochet, are, 1. This is one of the techniques in crocheting just as Tunician crochet, C2C crochet etc. 2. It is one of the old techniques and is used in making table cloths, curtains etc 3. Generally only one colour is used for this. Preferably it is crocheted by cotton thread. 4. Only two crochet stitches are used in this, chain and double crochet. 5. The designs to be worked out by filet crochet are given by diagram or graphs and not in written pattern.

6. The filet crochet designs are made up of boxes, called MESH. 7. Open box consists of (dc1, ch1, dc1) and Close box consists of (dc1, dc1, dc1). Let us call this type as 3by3 type. 8. There is another type of filet crochet in which open box means (dc1, ch2, dc1) and close box means (dc 1 in 4 sts) and call this as 4by4 type.

9. We can also work close box in place of open and open box in place of close as in next fig

10. Any design in cross stitch or diagram in boxes can be made by using this technique just as,

But some designs (though given in squares) which are specially for kids shall not be worked by this technique because it is done in single colour, where as kids like multicolour designs.

11. How many chains to start with for any design? is another question. Count the number of boxes at base, say "x". Then start with 2x+1 for 3x3 type and for 4x4 type make 3x+1 chains.11. 12. Then if you want, write the row wise. As I have written below the picture of OM, Row 1 and Row 2. In which O means open box and C means closed box. 12. When we make close box on open, we have two coice either make dcs on dc and chain or make middle dc in ch1-gap. 13. Two consecutive open bozes means (dc1,ch1,dc1,ch1,dc1) on 3by3 type. Two close box means dc3+dc2 and not dc 6. Then just to begin this technique I made one heart and one letter OM in Sanskrit (in first picture). OM is the special letter used in India. Crochet Antarpaat a Very Rare Article,

 

Hello friends,

Do you know what is Antarpaat means? many of you may not. Antarpaat is a secrad cloth hold in Hindu wedding, between Bride and groom untill the holy rituals are complete. Antar means keep at a distance and pat means patal or cloth. When Antarpaat is removed at proper time the bride family and groom family are supposed to be unite. Moreover bride and grrom are supposed to be unite as disjunct. Oneness is supposed to developed after that.

 In thread ceremony also it is used between Father and Son and when it is removed the son is supposed to wholely merge in his First Tutor (GURU) to learn further or start learning. 

Antarpaat is such a holy cloth, naturally many holy symbols are printed on it just as Swastik, Kalash etc.

Here I made one very Special Crochet Antarpaat. There are all secrad symbols on that as OM, Shubh, Labh, Kalash, Swastik and also Mango leaves Toran as a border.

In the video I have not explained each and every line to make this Antarpaat. Three posts which I have already published will be useful for that. The whole Antarpaat is made in 3 strips with border. The middle strip is made of three parts.

I made it with 34 stitches. Then continuing on right side I made LABH letters and SHUBH you may make separately and sew here to OM on left. My post shared below and Video willbe useful for that.

Then on the top of this middle strip I made double crochet row, making 2 dcs in each dc-row and 1 dc on sc-st (or row). Total there will be 182 sts (your's may be 1-2 less or more. 

Then to make upper strip for which we have to just think mathematically.

See for Kalash we need 22 sts, we skip 13 sts on both sides. Thus for one Kalash we need 35 sts for 2 Kalash 70 sts. Thus 181-70=111 sts remain we have to fix 3 swastik there. 

Then we think about Swastik. I need 17 sts for 1 swastik. It means for 3 swastik 51 sts. 

Now 111-51=60 sts. and there are 4 places to fix them. So 60/4=15. Look at the following figure.

In the figure S stands for swastk and K stands for Kalash.

If your stitches 1 or 2 more it doesn't matter. Either reduce it to this number or if  more then 2 then instead of 13 sts on both sides skip 14 or 15 on both sides.

The third part that is lower part of Antarpaat: As we developed upper part directly by making dc-line along the line, we can make the lower part in the same manner. Because otherwise you will have to work from top to nottom of the design which is difficult. Hence I made third part separately and sew it to the middle one. 

Then make the single crochet border with coconut color yarn on three sides skipping bottom, making 3 scs at corner. While making single crochet border you may add beads as I have done after every 2 single crochets.

Lastly make Mango Leaves Toran as a lower border. Join green yarn at first st,

R1: (ch14, sc1 in 8 sts) rep till end, lastly chs 14, sc in last st. If necessary instead of 8 sc you may make 6 or 7 in last and first place. Note that 14 chs must be in first and last st.

R2: [along 14 chs make (sl st1, sc2, hdc2, dc3, hdc2, sc2, sl st), skip first st make sc in 6 sts, skip last one] rep till end. BO.

The I sewed pompom as merigold flowers which is also supposed to be very secrade.

Lastly you may may slip stitch row at the joint of three parts as shown in video.
