Crochet Baby Sweater for One Year Baby

Hello friends,

This sweater is for 9 to 12 months baby. It's very easy and looks cute. Specially I made this for Holi Gift to baby. In India first Holi or Rangpanchami of baby is special. Generally grand mother gives White cloths and powder colors in silver bowl to her grand daughter or grand son. Hence I made this sweater for that occassion. You can use some of your left over yarn in this project.

Size: Width 10.5", Height 12" and weight147 gm, out of which 110 gm is white. Yarn: Vardhaman Millenium and hook 3.5 mm.

PATTERN: For this project we need multiple of 5 +4 stitches. For one year baby we need 11"-12"  starting length of neckline. I made 54 +1 chains with length 11.7".

R1: sc1 in each ch starting from second chain. (54)

R2: ch2 (not considered as first dc), [dc1 in 4 sts, (dc2) in next] 10 times, dc1 in last 4 sts. (64)

R3: ch2, [dc1 in 5 sts, (dc2) in next] 10 times, dc1 in last 4 sts. (74)

R4: ch2, [dc1 in 6 sts, (dc2) in next] 10 times, dc1 in last 4 sts. (84)

R5: ch2, [dc1 in 7 sts, (dc2) in next] 10 times, dc1 in last 4 sts. (94)

Join Blue yarn at first st so as to work on wrong side.(Don't BO white), remember that this bubble row we shall always work on wrong side.

R6: ch1, [sc1 in 3 sts, 6dc-tog next] rep till end, sc1 in last stitches.

R7: with white, ch2, [dc1 in 8 sts, (dc2) in next] 10 times, dc1 in last 4 sts. (104)

R8: ch2, [dc1 in 9 sts, (dc2) in next] 10 times, dc1 in last 4 sts. (114)

R9: ch2, [dc1 in 10 sts, (dc2) in next] 10 times, dc1 in last 4 sts. (124)

R10: ch2, [dc1 in 11 sts, (dc2) in next] 10 times, dc1 in last 4 sts. (134)

Now shoulder width is 4.3" which is sufficient, so now I divide these sts in 5 parts and place markers. Divide 134 as followes...

134=19 front part + 28 one sleeve + 40 back + 28 other sleeve + 19 other front side.

R11: ch1, sc1 in 19 sts, ch3, skip 28 sts of sleeve, sc1 in 40 sts, ch3, skip 28 sts of other sleeve, sc 1 in 19 sts.

Join Pink yarn in first st so as to work on wrong side.

R12: ch1, [sc1 in 3 sts, 6dc-tog next] rep till 3 chains of underarm, here we don't work bubble, sc1 in each chain, again [sc1 in 3 sts, 6dc-tog next] rep till 3 chains of second underarm, here also we don't work bubble, sc1 in each chain, [sc1 in 3 sts, 6dc-tog next] rep till end.

R13: ch2 turn, dc1 in each sc-st, (total sts will be 19+3+40+3+19=84)

R14, R15, R16: ch2 turn,dc on dc till end.

For R17 again attach some new color to work on WS and repeat R6.

Repeat R13 to R17 till the height is 12".

R1 for Sleeve: Join white yarn work in round. ch1, sc1 in each st, only increase 2 stitches in underarm, cl. So number of sts are 35, means we can have 9 bubbles (1 st increases as joint of underarms on both sides). But we work only 8 bubble and not at underarm. Turn sleeve to wrong side and then work R2.

R2: same as R6 only with the change that scs at underarm stitches.

R3, R4: ch2, dc1 in each st, cl.

R5: ch3, 2dctog, dc1 in each st till last 2 sts remain, 2dctog again. (2 sts decreased) (33)

R6: dc1 in each st, make a knot but don't cut the yarn. Join corresponding color so as to work on wrong side

R7: ch1, (sc3, 6dctog) rep, cl

R8, R9: dc1 in each st, cl

R10: dc1, 2dctog, dc1 in each st till last 2 sts, 2dctog, cl. (31)

After this we don't decrease any st, work routine as 4 rounds of dc1 in each st with white and next round of bubbles with colored yarn from wrong side. Work till the length is 12". Match the colors of bubbles on body part and on sleeves.

Lastly work border:

R1 of border: dc1 in each st with white, cl.

R2: (fpdc1, bpdc1) rep till end, cl (Remember that first fpdc is fpsc and ch2)

R3: (fpdc on fpdc and bpdc on bpdc) rep till end, cl.

Similarly complete other sleeve. Also make same border to the bottom of the sweater, button band and buttonhole band.

Lastly make Neck line Band: ch1, sc1 in each st, BO. On neckline border we get 5 sts on buttonband+ 54 on neck+ 5 on buttonhole band. (64 sts). Then sew buttons.

The beautiful baby sweater is ready.

ETC: Enjoy the Creativity.
