Rangoli Around Wooden Sitting Device (Paat) 3, Rectangular Lace Edging for Frock, Curtain etc

Hi,

This is the third Rangoli around the rectangular wooden sitting device.

I have used Red & White 4 ply yarn and 3.5 mm hook.

Size: 18" x 12"

Pattern: Make 51+84+51 chs by red.

R1: dc1 in 48 chs, (dc1, ch2, dc1) V made, dc1 in next 80 chs, V in next ch, dc1 in last 48 chs.

R2: (dc1, ch1, skip 1 st, dc1 in next) rep, 27 windows made, at corner (dc3, ch2, dc3), ch1, (dc1, ch1, skip 1 st, dc1 in next) rep 44 windows made, at corner (dc3, ch2, dc3), ch1, (dc 1, ch1 skip 1 st) rep till 27 windows.

R3: join white yarn, [sc2 in each ch 1 sp, at corner  sc1 on 2 dc-sts, (sc2, ch3, sc2) in ch2-sp at corner, sc1 in 2 dc-sts] rep till the end,

R4: same as R2, this time there will be 28 windows on width side, at corner (dc3, ch3, dc3), again (dc1, ch1, skip 1 st), on length side there will be 46 windows, on other side also 28 windows.

Now for our design we need multiple of 7 windows. Hence on length side we can have symmetrical design like 6 patterns + 4 windows extra which gives symmetry.

R5: Join pink yarn on first window, ch1, sc1 there, [dc9 in next window, skip 1 window, (sc 1 in next window, ch2) 3 times, sc 1 in next window, skip 1 window] rep till corner, at corner dc 11 in ch3-sp, then again skip 1 window, (sc 1 in next window, ch2) 3 times, sc 1 in next window, skip 1 window. Repeat

R6: Again join same colour in between first and second dc of first pattern to work on RS. [(dc1, ch1) 8 times, ch1, sc1 in ch2-sp, ch1] rep till corner. At corner only the change will be (dc1, ch1) 10 times.

R7: Join white yarn at first ch1-sp on RS.ch1, sc1, {[ch3, sc1 in space, sc1 in next ch1-sp] rep 3 times, sc1 in next sp, ch5-picot, again (sc1, ch3, sc1 in space, sc1 in next ch1-sp) 3 times, ch1, sc1 in ch2-sp, ch1} rep till centre. At centre in 3 gaps ch3-picot, in 4th gap ch5-picot, in 6th gap ch7-picot, again in 3 gaps ch3-picot. Thus 9 gaps.

If you look now there is bump at both corners from inside. So I need to do next round to hide those bumps.

R8: Work at base. Join white yarn at the first st to work on RS, sc1 in each gap between two sts. At corner, skip corner’s stitch and taking incomplete sc from the st before corner and the st after corner, make 2 sctog.

Hope you like this design, you can use it as rectangular lace for curtain, napkin or frock with rectangular neck.

Rangoli Around Wooden Sitting Device (Paat) 2, Rectangular Lace Edging for Frock, Curtain etc

Hi,

This is the second Lace edging or Patachi Rangoli (as I explained in my previous post. It's very beautiful and can be made easily.

This Rangoli I made in single colour where as first I had made in two colours.

Length 19”. Width 12” and weight 36 gm.

Yarn 4 ply, hook 3.5 mm

Pattern: We need multiple of 16 + 8 chs.

So we make 56+ 1 ch for corner+ 88 + 1 for marker+ 56 chs (202 sts)

R1: make ch3 (as first dc, then dc 1 in each ch till there are 56 dcs, (dc3) in next ch, dc 1 in each of the next 88 sts, (dc3) at corner in next ch, dc 1 in each ch till there are 56 dcs.

R2: ch1, sc1 in same st, [ ch6, skip 6 sts, sc1 in next, (ch3, skip 2 sts, sc 1 in next) 3 times] rep till corner, at corner ch8, skip 8 sts, sc 1 in the middle of 3 dcs at corner, ch8, skip 8 sts, sc 1 next, [(ch3, skip 2 sts, sc 1 next) 3 times, ch6 skip 6 sts, sc 1 next] rep till other corner. Work similarly at other corner and on third side.

R3: [(dc4, ch1, dc4) in ch6-sp, sc1 in first ch3-sp, (ch3, sc 1 in next ch3-sp) 2 times] rep till corner, (dc5, ch1, dc5) in ch8-sp, ch2, (dc5, ch1, dc5) in ch8-sp, sc 1 in next sp, (ch3, sc1 in next sp) 2 times, (dc4, ch1, dc4) in ch6-sp, repeat similarly on other side.

R4: ch3+5, [shell (dc2, ch2, dc2) in ch1 sp, ch5, sc 1 in first ch3-sp, ch3, sc 1 in next sp, ch5] rep till corner, at corner shell in ch1-sp,

R5: [dc7 in ch5-sp, in ch2-sp of shell make (dc1, ch3-picot by sc) 3 times, dc 1 in same space of shell, ch1,  dc7 in next ch5-sp, ch1, sc1 in ch3-sp, ch1] rep till corner, at corner ch1, dc7 in ch5 sp, ch1, (dc1, ch3-picot by sc) 3 times, dc 1 in same space of shell, ch1,  dc7 in next ch5-sp, ch1, (dc1, ch3-picot by sc)2 times, dc1, ch5-picot by sc, (dc1, ch3-picot by sc) 2 times. Thus 5 picots made. Work other sides and corner similarly.

Now if you look at the corners there ia Bump in each corner, so to remove that we work out next row of single crochet skipping 3 sts of corner.
R6: Join yarn at first st of base. Make sc 1 in each st, [at corner skip 3 sts taking the st before and after these sts, make 2sctog, then again sc 1 in each of the furst st] 2 times, BO.

The beautiful lace pattern as in picture 1 is ready.

Rangoli Around Wooden Sitting Device (Paat) 1, Rectangular Lace Edging for Frock, Curtain etc

Hello friends,

Generally when we invite any one for lunch or dinner, we decorate our dinning area means dinning table and near by. In Indian culture Paat (wooden sitting device) are arranged and people sit on them and take their lunch or dinner. Many times dinning plate is also placed on these paat. Now a days most of the people use Dinning Table still occassionally or for functions this type of arrangement is made.

This was the beautiful Dinning arrangement made in my daughter's marriage.

So the traditional way of decorating the dinning area is drawing beautiful and colourful Rangolies around the plate and also around the Paat.

At that time we have placed Beads Rangolis around the lunch plate which are made by my mother. I have shown it in my post,

https://alkaandart.blogspot.com/search?q=mom%27s+creation

Other than dinner arrangements the main use of Square Paat (Chourang) is in many rituals and every time Rangoli has to be made around Chourang.

Now a days we don't have much time to draw the rangoli and colour it so if we get instant rangoli then it will be so far so good. Hence I made three crochet Rangolies around Paat / Chourang in last two weeks. I have already made the rangolies around plates (which is called Meherap), here is it's link on my blog,

https://alkaandart.blogspot.com/search?q=meherap

Now for those we don't have this use of Rangoli around paat, can use it as a best Lace Design which you may use for baby frock with rectangular neck or Towel border or Curtain border etc.

Pattern: Rangoli Around Paat Design 1

Measurement of the Paat around which we are making Rangolil is 18" x 12".

Yarn Orange and Green, 4 ply and hook 3.5 mm

We want multiple of 16+4 sts for the design. Start with Green yarn.

For 12” we need 52 chs, for 18” we need 84 chs again for 12” we take 52 chs. That is 188 chs, plus ch2 for corner means 190 chs. Make ch3 as first dc.

R1: dc1 in each ch starting from 4th ch till there are 52 dcs, then (dc1, ch3, dc1) in next ch, dc 1 in next 84 sts, (dc1, ch3, dc1) in next, dc1 in last 52 sts.

Note that first dc means ch3.

R2: [(dc1, ch3, skip 3 sts) rep till corner, at corner dc on dc-st, ch2, dc1 in ch3-sp, ch2, dc on dc-st] 2 times, [(dc1, ch3, skip 3 sts) rep till end.

R3: dc1,[ (dc3 in ch3-sp, dc 1 on next dc, ch3 skip this window, dc 1 on next dc-st) rep till corner, at corner, (ch3, dc1 in ch2-sp) twice, ch3] twice,  (dc3 in ch3-sp, dc 1 on next dc, ch3 skip this window, dc 1 on next dc-st) rep till end. BO.
R4: Join Orange yarn at first st as to work on right side. Ch1, [sc1 in each of the 5 dc-sts, sc3 in ch3-sp, sc1 in first dc-st, ch6, sc1 on dc-st, sc3 in ch3-sp] 3 times,

R5: ch1 turn, [sc 1 on 5 sc-sts, (ch1, extended dc 1) 5 times in ch6-sp, ch5, (ext dc1, ch1) 5 times in same ch6-sp] 3 times, sc 1 in last 5 sts.

R6: sc1 in 4 sts, then from the ch1-gap after first ext dc make (sc 2 in ch1-sp, ch4) 3 times,  then in ch5-sp make ( hdc1, dc2, ext dc 1, ch4-picot by sl st, ext dc1, dc 2, hdc1) then make (sc 2 in ch1-sp, ch4) 3 times,  lastly sc1 in 4 sts, BO.

For corners,

In a magic loop make dc 16,with white, attach green tassels at three times on one side. Make two such pieces.

Make sc 6 in a magic loop, cl. Make two one with yellow and other with red as Haldi Kumkum which we used to place on any rangoli.

Sew these two pieces on two white tassels. Lastly sew  them at two corners of our Rangoli.
