Beautiful Plate Decor, Meherap, Toran Design
Hi,
My new creation is this plate decor (Meherap).
I have already explained about plate decor and it's uses in Indian culture, please read,
https://alkaandart.blogspot.com/search?q=plate+decor
and
https://alkaandart.blogspot.com/search?q=beaded+rangolies
It is made in 4 ply wool with 3.5 mm crochet hook.
Pattern:
Start with chains (ch) 180 or as per your need to cover the round around the plate, plus 3 chs extra as a first double crochet (dc).
R1: dc 1 in each of 8 sts, dc 2 in next, (dc 1 in each of the 9 sts, dc 2 in next) repeat (198 sts), ch 3 turn. See fig 2.
R2: dc 1 in each of the 9 sts, dc 2 in next, (dc 1 in each of the 10 sts, dc 2 in next) repeat (216 sts) ch 4 turn,
R3: skip one st then dc 1 in the next st, (ch 1, skip 1 st, dc 1 in next) repeat, (107 loops).
Fig 3.
Now for this design we want multiple of 8 plus 1 loops that is 8x13=104+1 there are 105 loops. But we have 107 loops so we skip first and last loop.
R4: Ch 3 turn, (consider as first dc), dc 3 in loop, dc 1 on previous row dc, ch 7, skip 3
loops and join by single
crochet (sc) in 4th loop, see fig 4,[turn the work, and make 8 sc on 7 chains, sc 1 on next st, fig 5, ch 3, see fig 6, turn dc 1 on the same st, dc 2 on the next st (out of scs), dc 1 on next st, (that is on 3 sts out of 8 sc we make 5 dcs)] fig 7, ch 7 join by sc in the same loop, from [ to ] 4 times}, then dc 4 in 4th loop (skipping 3 loops), dc 1 on the dc of previous row. See fig 8.
Then repeat { to }all above till the whole length is over. Finally it will look as in fig 9.
Further if you want you can decorate this by sewing beads as you like.
