Beautiful Crochet Toran with Granny Squares specially for Diwali, Christmas etc

Hello friends,

For the big festival in India Diwali or Christmas I made two Door Decor or Home Decor, Bandhanwal or TORAN. Generally in India people use to hang this at door, thinking behind it is just to welcome guest or to increase the positivity of coming person. You may read,

Before this also I have number of posts making Toran. This one first time I made with granny squares.

I used Vardhamaan Millenium 4 ply, hook 3.5 mm It’s length 39” and weight 125 gm.

PATTERN:

Granny Square:

R1: with white in a magic loop, (dc3, ch2) 4 times, cl, BO.

Note first dc means ch3.

Join green yarn at ch2-sp.

R2: [(dc3, ch2, dc3)called shell in ch2-sp, ch1] 4 times, cl, BO.

Join yellow yarn at ch1-sp

R3:[dc3, ch1, shell in ch2-sp of shell, ch1] 4 times, cl, BO.

While making second granny square join it to first at corner’s ch2-sp by sc, then join at ch1-sp and lastly at ch2 sp of next corner.then complete the second granny square . Go on making and joining granny squares like this till the required length is achieved. For me it’s length is 36.5” and I joined 14 granny squares.

Now join yellow at ch1-sp,

R1: dc 1 in each dc-st, dc 1 in ch1-sp and dc 1 on both sides of corner joint. Then at edge part make

Place marker after one granny and then after every 2 grannies, symmetrically at last 1 granny will remain.

From R2 we work on one side of Toran patti only.

R2: ch1, sc 1 in each st till 5 sts to marker (9sc made), [ch3, skip 2 sts, dc 1 in next 6 sts, ch3, skip 2 sts, sc 1 in 16 sts] rep till end, lastly sc 1 in 9 sts (instead of 16).

R3: ch1 turn, sc 1 in each st skip last st, [ ch3, shell in the gap between 2nd and 3rd dcs, (shell means (3dc-puff, ch2, 3dc-puff), ch3, shell in between 4th and 5th dcs, ch3, skip first and last st and make sc 1 in between] rep till end, at last skipping first sc-st make sc 1 in each st (here don’t skip last st) (8scs).

R4: ch1 turn, sc 1 in 7 sts, skip last st, [ch3, shell on first shell, ch3, shell on middle ch (out of 3 chs), ch3, shell on second shell, ch3, skip first and last sc and make sc 1 in each st in between] rep till end, lastly make sc 1 in 7 sts.

R5: ch1 turn, sc 1 in 6 sts, skip last st, [ch3, shell on first shell, ch3, dc 1 on second ch of ch3-sp, ch3, shell on shell, ch3, dc 1 on second ch of ch3-sp, shell on shell, ch3, skipping first and last sc-st make sc 1 on each st in between] rep till end, lastly sc 1 in 6 sts.

R6: ch1 turn, sc 1 in 5 sts, skip last st, [ch3, shell on first shell, ch3, dc 1 on second ch of ch3-sp (here we increase but in next ch3-sp we don’t) ch3, dc on dc, ch3, shell on shell, ch3, skipping first and last sc-st, make sc on each st in between] rep, lastly sc1 in each 5 sts.

R7: ch1 turn, sc 1 in 4 sts, skip last st, [ch3, shell on first shell, ch3, dc 1 on second ch of ch3-sp (here we increase but in next two ch3-sp we don’t) ch3, dc on dc, ch3, dc on dc, ch3, shell on shell, ch3, skipping first and last sc-st, make sc on each st in between] rep, lastly sc1 in each 4 sts.

R8: ch1 turn, sc 1 in 3 sts, skip last st, [ch3, shell on first shell, ch3, dc 1 on second ch of ch3-sp (here we increase but in next three ch3-sp we don’t) ch3, dc on dc, ch3, dc on dc, ch3, dc on dc, ch3, shell on shell, ch3, skipping first and last sc-st, make sc on each st in between] rep, lastly sc1 in each 3 sts.

Here we stop because two patterns (pendants) touch each other.

Join green yarn at the starting st on side edge.

R1: ch1, sc1 in each st of vertical side, (sc1, hdc1, sc1) at corner, sc1 in each st on upper side, (sc1, hdc1, sc1) at corner, sc1 in each st of vertical side,

sc1 in 3 sts of lower side, [in each ch3-sp till central puff, make (sc2, ch4-picot, sc2) then at centre make three petals as {puff1, ch3, sc in ch2-sp, (ch3, puff, ch3, join in ch2-sp by sc) 2 times} then on other side again in each ch3-sp make (sc2, ch4-picot, sc2)

After the border of 5 gaps join yellow puff lines of two pendants by sc] rep till end at last sl st and close, BO.

Finally it will look as, (close up)
