Mangal Kalash Part 1: Kalash (Puja Item / Rukhawat Item)
Fig 1
Friends,
Last week in India we have one festival known as "Akshay Trutiya". Akshay means never ending, so prosperity, happiness and success should never end. Mangal Kalash, shown in fig 1 is places for SANKALP. It is also the day of remembering our dead beloved persons.
For details, plase read,

On this auspicious day, I made this "Crochet Mangal Kalash" which is very important in every special worship of God. Kalash or Kalasham is a metal pot (copper, silver etc) filled with water which holds coconut and mango leaves as shown in fir 2 (by courtesy of Wikipedia).
In this post I will write about Kalash only. Coconut and Mango leaves will be in next post.
Material: For this I used Caron One Pound yarn with light yellow colour (though it looks white in photo 👿). Crochet hook 3.5 mm (though recommended is 5 mm) so that it should not get loose.
 or it should remain tight.
Pattern: R1: In a magic loop , ch 1 and sc 6, close by slip[ stitch in first sc. (6 sts)
R2: ch 1, sc 2 in each st, cl, (12 sts).
R3: ch 1, (sc 2 in one st, sc 1 in next st) repeat, cl, (18 sts)
R4: ch 1, sc 2 in one st, sc 1 in each of the next 2 sts) repeat, cl, (24 sts).
R5: Ch 2, (hdc 2 in one st, hdc 1 in next 3 sts) rep, cl, (30 sts). See fig 3, base is ready.

  1. Hi mam,
Your teachings are really good... by following your tutorial I made kalash for 4.3inches. It came very well, everyone loved it in my home. Now, they are asking me to do it for 5.1 to 5.4 inches. How shall I do it?
I started kalash with 8sc instead of 6sc, increased the stitches to 85 at row 14. Now I don't know how to decrease the stitches to bring the shape. Please help me how to do it?
Pls suggest me that am I right with my base or not, if yes then how to decrease the 85 sts to the shape of kalash. I will be eagerly waiting for your reply. I believe that you will definitely help me.
    Thank you mam.

  2. Thanks for referring my blog. For bigger one in last round you may decrease 4 srs to get 81 only. Then (dc 1 in 7 st, 2dctog next) 9 times. So that 9 sts will decreased (72 sts)
Then in next row (dc1 in6 sts. 2dctog next) 9 times , again 9 sts will decreased thus 63 sts and so on.
