Crochet Old Kitchen Equipments Part 1, Old Grinding Machine for Baby's Kitchen, Toys for Baby's Kitchen

Here is the pattern of first appliance Jaate, the traditional stone grinder (stone Quern). It is hand operated and from centuries it is used in India for processing grains, pulses and spices into flour. It has two circular stones, one fixed, called bed stone and other, upper stone is rotated about it which is called runner stone. I still remember my childhood when my mother actually made flour or turmeric powder at home on Jate. It's very hard work.

Grain is fed into the central hole and runner stone is rotated, the friction between two rough surfaces converts the grain to flour.

I made this old appliance by crochet for decorating at the time of Muhurt or as a toy for small baby's kitchen. Please look at the first photo. The pattern is here,

PATTERN: Yarn: Vardhman Millenium, hook 1.75 mm. Diameter 3" and weight 23 gm. First we make Bed stone.

R1: in a magic loop, ch1, sc6, cl (6)

R2: ch1, sc2 in each st, cl (12)

R3: ch1, [sc1 in 1 st, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (18).

R4: ch1, [sc1 in 2 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (24).

R5: ch1, [sc1 in 3 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (30)

R6: ch1, [sc1 in 4 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (36)

R7: ch1, [sc1 in 5 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (42).

R8: ch1, [sc1 in 6 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (48).

R9: ch1, [sc1 in 7 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (54).

R10: ch1, hdc1 in each st, close in back loop of first st. (54)

R11: ch1, sc1 in back loop of each st (keeping V intact on front side), cl (54)

R12, R13 & R14: ch1, sc1 in each st, cl (54).

Make one more piece from R1 to R9 only.

Then stuff fiber or cotton inside and sew this to the first part by tapestry needle. Bed stone made. 

Runner Stone: Part1: Again make one circular piece working R1 to R9 above. 

R10: sc1 in back loop of each st, cl (54)Unworked front loops are seen in next photo.

R11: ch1, sc1 in each st, cl. (54). R12: same as R11

Now Top of Runner Stone: Runner Stone Part2: Make ring of ch18.

R1: ch1, [sc1 in 2 chs, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (24).

R2: ch1, [sc1 in 3 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (30).

R3: ch1, [sc1 in 4 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (36)

R4: ch1, [sc1 in 5 sts, (sc2) in next] 2 times, [sc1 in 2 sts, ch2, skip 2 sts, sc1 next, (sc2) next], [sc1 in 5 sts, (sc2) in next] 3 times, cl. This ch2-space is made to fix handle rod to hold and rotate the runner stone. (40 sts, one ch2-sp). This ch2-sp is shown by blue mark in next photo.

R5: ch1, [sc1 in 6 sts, (sc2) in next] 2 times, [sc1 in 2 sts, sc2 in ch2-space made in previous round, sc1 next 2 sts, (sc2) next], [sc1 in 6 sts, (sc2) in next] 3 times, cl.cl (48)

R6: ch1, [sc1 in 7 sts, (sc2) in next] 6 times, cl (54)

Then join grey yarn at any stitch of ring of 18 we made initially.

R1: ch1, sc1 in each st, cl (18)

R2: same as R1 (18)

Rod: For rod take some thick metal wire or I had number of thin wires, I took them together. Wtap brown yarn on it to get the required thickness. Insert it in Ch2-sp made in R4.

Then stuff cotton or fiber and sew second part with part 1 of runner stone by tapestry needle.

Now if you insert metal rod at the centre of Bed stone then it can actually rotate and your princess have fun to play with it.

The beautiful grinding machine is ready to decorate your home or to play with.

Crochet Big Drawstring Bag, Oti Bag 5 with Puff Flowers

 

Hi,

Look the beautiful Oti Bag I made with puff flowers. It looks wonderful. Puff flower border on the top looks amazing and puff boorder at base helps to maintain the shape of the bag.

It's height is 7", diameter of base 6.5" and weight is 72 gm in which 38 gm is white and remaining is the weight of other two colors. Yarn: Vardhman Millenium and hook 3.5 mm.

PATTERN: With white yarn make,

R1: R1: Make dc12 in magic loop, cl (16) (First dc means ch3)

R2: dc 2 in each st, cl (24)

R3: [dc1 in 1 st, (dc2) in next] 12 times, cl (36)

R4: [dc1 in 2 sts, (dc2) in next] 12 times, cl (48)

R5: [dc1 in 3 sts, (dc2) in next] 12 times, cl (60)

R6: [dc1 in 4 sts, (dc2) in next] 12 times, cl (72)

R7: ch1, hdc1 in back loop of each st, cl (72)

R8: dc1 in back loop of each st, cl (72)

R9: dc1 in each st, cl (72)

Repeat this round till the height is 5.5".

Green round GR 1: (dc1 in 2 sts, ch2, skip 2 sts) repeat 18 times, cl.

GR2: dc1 on each dc-st, dc2 in each ch2-sp, cl (72)

GR3: ch1, sc1 in same st, (ch3. skip 2 sts, sc1 in next) 24 times, cl. (24 ch3-sps)

GR4: sl st in next ch3-sp, sc1 in same ch3-sp, [in next ch3-sp, (dc1, ch1) 5 times, sc1, sc1 in next ch3-sp] rep till end, cl.

Join orange yarn at first ch1-sp.

R5: (4dc-puff in ch1-sp, fix by ch1) rep 5 times (means in each ch1-sp), in each ch1-sp between 2 puffs make (dc1, ch3-picot by sc) 2 times, cl. Cut the yarn and hide it properly. Agagin join the orange yarn at first ch1-sp in next space for flower.

                               

Work similarly in each of the 12 spaces for flower.

Then let's make puff border to the base. It will give support to the bag and looks beautiful. Join orange yarn at any st.

R: ch1, (4dc-puff at same st, fix by ch1, skip 2 sts, join by sc in next) rep till end, cl.

Lastly make a cord of 100 chains by taking two threads at a time. Make two pieces. Pass then through windows as we pass usually for drawstring bag. The most beautiful Oti bag is here.
