Crochet Diwali Special Aakash Kandil, Lantern Type Diya Holder, Small Mandir for Idol

 

Hello friends,

For this Diwali occasion I made one more Aakash Diya. This is specially for Panati or Diya. But actually you can place bulb also inside. You can also use it as a MANDIR and place small idol as in the third photo above.

I also apologies because I know that I should have posted this before Diwali. Actually I have published this video before Diwali on my youtube channel Kalopasak but I failed to write the pattern and post it here before Diwali.

Now let us see, how to make this Mandir type Aakash Diya.

For this we need 2 metal rings with 4.5" diameter, some beads amd tassels. Yarn: Vardhamaan Millenium, hooks used 3.5 mm, 1.75 mm and 0.5 mm (for inserting beads)

This lantern is 13.5", actually I wanted to make 11-12 inches but finally it is 13.5" For 11"-12", I should have make small strips with beads.

Pattern:   R1: With pink yarn cover the ring by single crochets (scs). I need 72  scs to cover this ring with 3.5 mm hook.

R2: By 1.75 mm make dc 1 in each st, cl (72). (I shifted to 1.75 mm because it goes easy to insert the hook in sc with ring.)

R3: (dc3 in one st, skip 2 sts) rep till end, cl.

R4 and R5: dc3 in each gap between two group of dc3, cl.

R6: Join second ring by scs with each of these 72 sts.

Then place markers after every 12 sts. (6 markers)

Now make LATKAN (those white puff cords seen attached to this base part with these 6 markers). 

LATKAN: (ch2,5dc-puff in second ch, pass 1 bead) rep till 4 beads, lastly one puff.

Make such 6 LATKANS. Join them at markers.

With remaining two rings make one more piece like this with above 6 rounds without Latkans.  Place 6 markers here also after every 11 sts. 

                                                        

Now make two flat round pieces as follow.

R1: dc12 in magic loop, cl

R2: dc2 in each st, cl (24)

R3: (dc1, dc2 in next st) 12 times, cl (36)

R4: (dc1 in 2 sts, dc2 in next) 12 times , cl. (48)

R5: (dc1 in 3 sts, dc2 in next) 12 times , cl. (60)

R6: (dc1 in 4 sts, dc2 in next) 12 times , cl. (72)

Attach one after the second round of lower base part. 

For joining these two parts make 6 STRIPS as followa with pink yarn.

STRIP: [Make ch2, enlarge the stitch pass 1 bead by using 0.5 mm hook,

fix it by ch1, ch4, sl st in the second ch (initially made), ch4, sl st in the first ch opposite to the first sl st.

ch1, sc5 in ch4-sp including the thread behind. join by sl st in the first ch (out of ch2 made initially), sc5 oon ch4-sp of other side of bead, close by sl st in opposite side's st] 

rep till 6 beads in the strip. Here if you want less height then make strip of 4 beads only. Make such 6 strips.

Fix them with one end at join of two LATKAN and other end at marker of the second half.

We made two flat rounds, second flat round we keep extra. 

1. If you want to keep Small idol as in the following photos then you may sew it to last round of lower part of 2 rings

2. If you wish to place PANATI (oil diya) then you may place it at base. So that if it gets oily then you should be able to remove it and wash. (No need to wash whole show piece).

For holding this stand. Make 6 cords same as we make LATKAN by white yarn with 3 beads and 4 puffs. Join the at the st paralle to the stripd joint and tie the other 6 ends together.

Zari Border: Join zari cord at first st after one  strip. [Make sc1 in each st till the next strip is joint. ch1, skip the joint st (where the strip is joined with joint of 2 latkans)] rep 6 times, cl. BO.

Also make similar border for lower and upper part of  upper half part. Of course if you have joined the strip using 2 sts then make sc1 in each st till joint then ch2 then sc in other part.

Here the beautiful Diya holder, Mandir is ready.

New Crochet Design for Shwal, Stole, Frock etc

Hi, Many of the subscribers of my channel make crochet articals and sell them. I am glad to see that people are earning with my patterns. In a way or other may be very small but I am helping them and this is my main motive to start this channel and blog. I always think that whatever I have, should be useful to the community. Ofcourse I also know that their earning is not too big but still this idea make me feel good. So when any one of them ask me some difficulty in completing their orders, happily I try to solve their difficulty. So one of such difficulty asked by one of my subscriber is this crochet pattern. She has order to be completed with this crochet design and she is unable to make that puff flower while working row-wise. So I make one square doily with that design. Pattern: This pattern needs multiple of 18 plus 10. So we start with 54+10=64 chs. (14" length) Make additional 2 chs and R1: Make dc 1 in each st starting from 4th ch (64 sts).

R2: ch3+1, [incomplete puff (this will be horizontal), skip 2 sts, second incomplete puff in next st, skip 2 sts, third incomplete puff in next st, YO and pass through all 19 sts on hook, complete puff at the joint of three incomplete puff, (4 petals of the puff flowers made). ch1, dc 1 in 10 sts, ch1] rep this till the length. Incomplete puff means: Stretch the stitch on the hook to get long st, (YO pass through the st, YO and get 2 long sts) repeat this 3 times, there are 7 sts on the hook. Complete puff means: (YO pass through the st, YO and get 2 long sts) repeat this 3 times, YO pass through all 7 sts, ch 1 to fix it.

R3: ch3+ ch1, [complete puff in the centre of flower, ch2, complete puff in the same place, ch1, dc 1 in next 10 sts] rep till end. See the first complete six-petal flower.

Note that for complete puff we refer as puff only. R4: ch3 turn, [ dc 2 in first gap, dc1 on the edge of puff st, dc2 in gap, dc 1 on edge of the puff st, dc2 in last gap, dc1 on dc-st] (considering ch3 as first dc, total 10 dcs made), ch1, get long st, incomplete puff on this ch1, skip 2 sts, second incomplete puff on next, skip two sts, third incomplete puff on next st, YO pass through all 19 sts, get a long st, puff at this joint, ch1, dc1 in last dc-st] rep till end.

R5: dc 1 on each of the next 10 sts, [complete puff in the centre of flower, ch2, complete puff in the same place, ch1, dc 1 in next 10 sts] rep till end.

Repeat R2 to R5 as much as the length required, means 14". Last row: dc 1 in each st. (as our first row).

Then ch3 and dc 2 in each dc-gap on both edges of the square.

Border: Join green yarn at any st, make R1: ch2, (hdc 1 in each st till corner, at corner hdc3) rep.

R2: sl st in 2 sts, (ch2, skip 3 sts, puff 1 in next st, ch2, puff in same st, ch2, puff in same st, ch2, skip 2 sts, sc 1 in next) rep till end. Take care that at corner always there should be 3 puffs design.

Crochet Door Hanging with Rose Border / Door Decor / Door Decor / Gate Parada

This is one of the Toran I made long back. It's very simple to make and beautiful too.

Pattern:

Make 155 chs (whose length is 3 ft.)

R1: dc 1 in each st starting from 4th ch. (151 sts)

R2:ch 4, skip 2 sts and in [next st make shell 1 (means 2dctog, ch2, 2dctog), ch 2, skip 4 sts] rep till end, skip 2 sts, dc 1 on last st.

R3: ch 4, [shell on shell, ch2] rep, 

Repeat this row till the required height of toran minus one. I make 5".

 
Then join green yarn in first dc on right side facing.

Next row:ch 2, in next ch 2 gap, [make (2dctog, ch 3, 2dctog), sc 1 in next ch 2 gap] rep, sc 1 in last dc,

Join red yarn on right side in between two green petals of previous row.

Next row: ch3, {(YO insert hook in the sp where red yarn is joint, YO get 2 long sts) 2 times, there are 5 sts on hook, YO and pass through all of them, ch 1 and fix it, first puff made, [(YO insert hook in the same sp, YO get 2 long sts) 3 times, YO and pass through all 7 sts on hook] 2 times, remove hook from working st, insert hook in the top st of first puff, pass the working st through thisch 2,sc 2 in same sp, sc 1 in next gap between two puffs, ch 3} repeat till end, 

Join yellow yarn and make the following last row.

Last row, ch 1, [sc 2 in green chains behind the rose, sc 3 in next gap, one before green sc inprevious row, second sc on that green sc and third sc after that green sc st] repeat till end.

Then make tassels and join them as shown, Also if you want you can join beads.

Crochet Flower: Gokarn

 

Hello friends,

I made crochet Gokarn flowers. These are supposed to be very holy flowers and used in rituals. Many of my subscribers requested me to make these and hence I made them. 

In nature blue, white and red Gokarn flowers are also found but mostly I saw this colour in our region. 

Making of this flower

Many of my friends asked me that whether I got the pattern written some where or I made it by my own. So I give making of this flower.

Generally my method is, I used to bring that flower. For this one I asked Namdev (our helper) to bring it from Varsha tai (wife of my mister's brother). He brought them. 

Then I literally disect the flower (so sad, but has to)

I sketch the shapes on some paper.  Actually it is so rough work, just for an idea of shape. Because flowers may not be available when I make it.

Then I try to make the shape. Ofcourse it doesn't happen at once. There are at least 2 trials and then it finalises. Then I make the video.

This method I used for almost all flowers I made.

Material: For this flower I used 3 ply yarn (light green, dark purple and white) and 1.75 mm hook.

Pattern: Make ch9,

R1: from second ch sc 1, hdc 1, dc 3, (dc2), dc 1, at corner st dc 5, on other side make, dc1, (dc2), dc3, hdc1, sc1, cl. (10+1+10 sts)

R2: Till central stitch work in between two scs or dcs. With green Ch1, sc1, hdc 1, dc2, (dc2). Change colour to purple, make (dc2) 4 times, dc1.

At central stitch dc3,

On other side, dc1, (dc2) 4 times, change colour to green, (dc2) dc2, hdc1, sc1, cl . (7Green+11Purple+1 central st+11purple+7 green).

R3: Insert wire if you want. With green ch1, sc 1 in 7 sts. Change colour to purple, sc1, hdc1, (dc3)3 times, hdc1, sc1, hdc1, (dc3) in each of the 3 sts, (dc4) in central st, (dc3) in 3 sts,  ( till last 8 purple sts remain) then hdc1, sc1, hdc1 (dc3) 3 times, hdc1, sc1, change colour to green, sc 1 in 7 sts, cl.

White middle part: ch9,

R1: sc 1 in each st from second ch (8 sts)

R2 to R6: ch1 turn, sc 1 in each st, BO (8 sts)

Round up this white piece (roll it) and sew this at the middle part of the flower made. 

Then with green yarn sew 2 sts at the bottom of flower.

The beautiful Gokarn flower is ready.

One correction that can be done is, while make white central rectangular piece, make it's border blue. This I realised when I saw  the photo but the flower which I actually saw has totally white middle portion. Hence I made it white.
