14th January, Makar Sankranti, the only festival in India which occuses by date. The special dessert of this festival is Tilgul (Sesame seeds and Jageery). People made it's LADU and VADI as in following photos and exchange in between saying that (तिळगुळ घ्या, गोड गोड बोला) take this sweet and speak sweet (NO QUARREL).
Festival significance in Indian culture in amazing. To eat sesame in full winter season as in January keeps our skip smooth, prevents it from becoming dry.
Tilgul Ladu is same as Rava Ladu we made in crochet at the time of Diwali Faral. So this time I made crochet Tilgul Vadi and Halva.
Pattern: Kite Shaped Vadi:
Shart from ch13+1
R1: sc 1 in each ch from second. (13).
R2: 2sctog, sc 1 in 9 sts, 2sctog, (11) ch1 turn,
R3: 2sctog, sc 1 in 7 sts, 2sctog, (9) ch1 turn,
R4: sc 1 in each st, (9) ch1 turn,
R5: 2sctog, sc 1 in 5 sts, 2sctog, (7) ch1 turn,
R6: 2sctog, sc 1 in 3 sts, 2sctog, (5) ch1 turn,
R7: sc 1 in each st, (5) ch1 turn,
R8: 2sctog, sc 1 in 1 sts, 2sctog, (3) ch1 turn,
R9: 3sctog (1)
Join yarn at the first ch made in the beginning and make rows from R2 to R9.
The kite shape is made.
Make border of sc 1 in each row all around. At corner make (sc1, ch1, sc1), cl.
Make two pieces like this. Place the WS on WS.
Join three sides by sl st. Insert thermocol sheet of same shape inside and close remaining last side by sl st.
We can also start this from ch2 and making sc 3 in first ch. then increasing 2 sts in each row as above.
Rhombus Shaped Vade:
Let us start with ch2,
R1: sc3 in first ch,
Increase 2 sts in each row. Skip R4 and R7 above then we get Rhombus shaped Vadi.
Halwa: For making Halwa take bulky white yarn, make 1 knot, cut.
Make so many by white and very few by red, green and yellow. We shall get Halwa as in fig 1.

Friends, I made this hair band (Head band) for my grand daughter Vedika whose hairs are beautiful, long and medium curly. I hope that she will love this.
Pattern:
Ch 8
Row1: dc 1 in 4th and 5th ch from
hook, ch12-picot, dc 1 in last three sts. Ch3 turn,
R2: dc 1 in next 2 sts, dc 20 in ch 12-loop, remove hook
from yarn, insert in first dc-st (out of 20 dcs in loop) get the working loop
out of this st, dc 1 in 3 sts, ch3 turn,
R3: dc 1 in next 2 sts, ch12-picot, dc 1 in last 3 sts, ch3
turn.
R4: dc 1 in next 2 sts, dc 20 in ch 12-loop, remove hook
from yarn, insert in first dc-st (out of 20 dcs in loop) get the working loop
out of this st, dc 1 in 3 sts, ch3 turn,
Repeat R3 and R4 till the length of this measures 20”.
Join this edge with first edge by sc-sts to form circular
ring. BO.
Join another colour.
Round 1: ch1, sc 2 in each dc-gap, cl.
R2: (skip 3 sts, dc 9 in next st, skip 3 sts, sc 1 in next)
rep till end, lastly skip 3 sts and cl by sl st in first st.
Then pass the second ring through first, third ring through second and so on.....

For new year's welcome I made this beautiful tablemat.
I used pink eyelash yarn which is calling me since 6 months from the box of all yarns. Along with Vardhamaan Millenium white and green yarn. One more beautiful yarn is Oswal's Rangoli shading yarn. I used 3.5 mm hook for this.
The pattern is here,
Flower: Make 6 flowers.
With white yarn, make a ring of ch6.
R1: dc16 in a ring, cl.
R2: With shading yarn, (make ch 10, skip 2 chs, hdc 1 in 2
sts, dc 1 in 3 sts,hdc 1 in 2 sts, sl st in last st,
Sl st in next white st) 16 times. Sl st in the base of first
petal.
Then make sl st 1 in 5 sts along the edge of the first
petal.
(Ch3, sl st in the 5th edge st of next petal) rep
till end. From back side the flower will look like this.
Flower completed, make such 6 flowers.
Now we are joining 3 flowers.
Next round by green yarn, join green yarn in any ch3-sp
behind the petal..
R1: dc 4 in each ch3-sp, cl (64 sts).
R2: ch1, sc 1 in same
st, sc1 next, join the petal by sc in back loop of petal and next green st, ……
(sc 1 in 3 sts, sc to join the next petal) rep till end, sc
1 in last st, cl.
R3: [(ch3, skip 2 sts, sc 1 in next) 3 times, ch5, skip 2
sts, sc 1 in next, ch7, sc 1 in next st, ch5, skip 2 sts, sc 1 in next] 4
times.
R4:sl st till centre of next ch3-loop, (ch3 sc 1 in next
loop) till ch5-loop, then ch4, sc 1 in ch7-loop] rep all around.
Now for second flower work these 3 green rounds and round 4
on 3 sides of motif, so that these two motives can be joint on this side.
Next 4 rounds by white yarn.
R1: [dc 4 in each ch3-space and shell at corner’s sc-st,
shell means (dc2, ch2, dc2)] rep all over.
R2, R3, R4: dc 1 in each st, shell on shell at corner.
Next4 rounds by eyelash yarn.
R5: R6, R7, R8: areworked on wrong side with eyelash yarn same as R2, 3 and 4.
R9: with green yarn join at any st, (make popcorn in this
st, means make dc 5 in same st, remove hook, insert it in first dc-st and pass
the working loop through this, one popcorn made, ch2) rep till corner at corner
make popcorn, ch2, popcorn in ch2-sp.
Note that there should be equal number of popcorns on both
parallel sides.
Here we have 39 popcorns in length and 25 on width side.
R10: With white yarn, [( dc2 in one ch2-sp, dc 3 in next ch2-sp) rep till
corner, shell in ch2-sp at corner] rep all over.
R 11 12 and 13: as round 2.
R14: join green yarn
at ch2 of shell at corner, sc 1 in 3
sts, (skip 2 sts, dc 9 in next, skip 2 sts, sc 1 in 7 sts) rep till corner,
R15: join shading yarn at the third right st from dc 9 fan.
[Ch2, skip 1 dc, (2dctog in next dc-st,ch 1) 6 times, 2dctog in next, skip last
dc-st, ch2, skip 1 st, sc 1 in next] rep all around. At corner (sc 1, ch2, sc
1) in ch2 sp of shell.
R16: Join white yarn at first dc-st, sc 1 there, [(ch3, sc 1 in next ch1-sp, repeat 7 times, ch2, sc 1 in ch2 sp at the base between two fans, ch2, sc 1 in first gap between two petals] rep.
R17: [(sc 1 in ch3-sp, ch3 picot, ch1) 3 times, ch2, sc 1 in
the middle sp, ch5-picot in the middle
petal, ch2, (sc 1 in ch3-sp, ch3 picot, ch1) 3 times, ch1] rep till end.
Join three flowers at one corner as shown in video.
Make leaves,
Leaf: ch11, from second ch, sc1, hdc2, dc3, 2hdc, 1sc, sl st
in last ch. Ch1,
Work similarly on other side. Ssew leaves to the piece as per your choice around the flowers at corner.
This is another Candle Holder I made for Christmas. It can be used as Diya Holder in Diwali or can be used to put flower pot. It's a best gift item for Christmas, New year or Sankranti. It's just a beautiful decorative piece with multiple uses. Also it is the best use of left over yarn.
For this I used 4 ply yarn and 3.5 mm hook.
It requires only 9 gm yarn, 3 gm pearls and it's diameter is 4.7".
R1(White) In a magic
loop make dc 15, cl. (First dc is always ch3)
R2: dc 2 in each st, cl (30 sts).
R3: (Green) (dc1 in one st, dc 2 in next) 15 times, cl (45
sts).
R4: (Red) [ch 6, 2dc tog in 4th ch, ch2, sl st in
4th ch. (ch2, 2dctog in same st, ch2, sl st in same st) 4 times,
ch4, skip 4 sts, sl st in next] 9 times, cl.
After completing the round sew pearls at the centre of each flower or decorate as per your ideas.
