Bag 2, Mat Type by Purse by Satin Ribbon

Mat Type Purse:
Every one of us have enjoyed the craft activities we have done in our childhood. One such simple craft activity I remember is "Weaving Paper Mat". Take two contrast colored square construction papers, leave margin of 1" on all four sides, mark with 1" vertical lines and cut them leaving margins. Then with other color make strips of 1" and start weaving.
I used this technique to make useful purse.
Material: Two contrast colored silk ribbons ( red and black) of width 1", scissor, needle, thread, Golden ribbon 1" width, red-black small beads, zipper, lining.
Procedure:  Cut 18 pieces of the red color ribbon each of  11" long. Sew ribbons with one another width wise to make 8" background. Now cut 10 pieces of black ribbon each of length 9". Go on weaving black ribbons in and out the red ribbons along with the sweet and sour memories of your childhood. You may see the paper mat method in
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSETvpDYywA
When all black stripes  are over the mat of 11 x 9 inches will be ready. Ends are folded and sewed. You can further decorate it by some bead work. Here three small red-black beads are sewed in the centre of each square.
Lining  is sewed along with Zipper. Fold it, sew the sides and the purse is ready.
Size of the purse is flexible you can make it as per your need. You can make extra pocket inside. Instead of beads you can decorate it by your own idea, or you can make one small pom-pom and attach it to zipper. There is scope for your own creativity.
You can use this purse for keeping your make up accessories or candy for your baby or if you are travelling then use it for identity card etc.

My first knitting post: Bag 1, Batawa

Knitting
In Indian culture the yarn has special importance particularly in some festivals like Vadpournima, Rakshabandhan etc . In my mother tongue Marathi there is a special word Reshimbandh, the word Reshimbandh  (Reshim means silk yarn and bandh means bond) means bond of love through the beautiful silk yarn. Just as yarn gets hand in hand with one another to form a sturdy cloth. Similarly we have to make our relations strong with hand in hand in one another.

Knitting is one of the art of making textile or fiber with the help of yarn, using two simple needles and I have a strong bond of love with knitting. First time I picked up the needles in my hands when I was in grade V. At that time we have basics of knitting and sewing as a part of our curriculum. My teacher taught me how to cast on and knit. I remember I have knitted a rectangle in garter stitch of size 4x6 inches approx. with small tassels on both sides. It was used as a rug for the small temple of God which we have in our home.

Forty years passed on to that, in between I am busy in my education, job, marriage then kids, family and all, so could not knit regularly but whenever I have time I have completed some project. But photos of all those projects are not with me because I didn't have any personal camera or mobile at that time. So I have photos of those items only which are still with me.
Small Bag (Batava in Marathi) This is very simple project even beginners can do. Such small bags were generally used by Grand mothers in the house when they went to temples for carrying some flowers, some coins etc. I am lucky enough who stayed with grandma (and my parents also) till my marriage. So here is my first project in memories of my grandma.
